Editorial - 'God Helps Those…
'The editor examined the Davis College Fund. Remember when college tuition was as low as hundreds of dollars a year instead of the thousands of today. Can anyone give us a logical reason why the cost of education has skyrocketed well beyond the cost of living increase? The same has happened with healthcare costs.
Day After Valentines Sent Brings Report on Original
by Fuffie Wagman
Fuffie examined the origin of the valentine. Dolores Samalin, do you remember your early career as a CSI (Crime Scene Identification) person when you investigated the source of a valentine card in which your name was spelled “Delores”? How did you find out the identity of your secret admirer?
Braces Boosting Morale of Ex-bubblegum Blowers
As Bills Pile on Parents
By Sylvia Stempel
Sylvia pointed out a distinct advantage of wearing braces - the practical need to eliminate gum chewing. Sylvia, have you known any braces-wearer who figured out how to chew gum? Might that have been the same as emphysema sufferers continuing to smoke?
The Inquiring Photographer
By Sandra Koodin and Stan Cherson
The question was to choose a new holiday.
Marc Schulman said “How about a vacation from Christmas to Easter?” Marc, are you retired now and enjoying that long holiday?
Shuck Likes U.S. and China Equally
By Barbara Teller
Our relationship with China has changed in many ways since 1955. Today, a backpack which sells in the US for tens of dollars costs tens of cents to make in China. Is China winning the economic war with the US?

Maroon Hoopmen to Play Rams in Away Fray
Holltoppers Seek to Even Score
After Loss on Home Court
By Hank Weisberg
The high scorer for the team was Ray Lundy. He is lost in California somewhere - does anyone know if he continued to play basketball after Davis?
Spotlight on Sports
By Mike Zucker
Mike commented about the rivalry with Edison. Do you remember the rivalry? - just like the Yankees and the Mets (except there were no Mets at that time).
Hilltop Mermen Face Yonkers;
Prepare for Defense of Title
By Joel Dash
Once the season is over the team swims in the WIAA Championships. The Mermen won the title in 1954. Did any of you mermen pass your swimming genes on to a new generation? - same question as last issue because no one answered the question.
Bowling Latest Sports Activity
Imagine, a sports activity for the non-sportsmen and a coed activity at that. Which one of you has ever had the thrill of a 300-game? If so, was your hand shaking on that 12th ball?
Some of the Ads on the Third Page:
Vernon Aquarium - Who of you traps a beta fish in a jar with a living plant and threatens it with your finger?
Fifth Ave. Valet - Will you rent a tuxedo for the Reunion? - a cummerbund hides an inflated waist.
Ankerson's Pharmacy - How many pills are part of your daily routine?

__SOME NATIONAL NEWS FOR FEBRUARY 1955
Feb. 14, 1955 Time Magazine
ONE of the nation's stormiest political debates swirls around a series of digits: Ten-Four-Fifty, officially Executive Order 10450, issued by the President on April 27, 1953, establishing broad new security standards for federal employment. Critics say that Ten-Four-Fifty results in a cold reign of terror among Government workers, that no man is safe from his neighbor's malice. Defenders say that Order 10450 is necessary to protect the U.S. from the infiltration of its Government by enemies. The U.S. got along for more than 150 years without a security system for federal employees. Was this the start of Homeland Security?
