Finkelstein Plays Title Role in "Suspect";
D.S. Will Present Melodrama on Nov. 12, 13
Kerewski to Be Cast as Supporting Lead;
Anderson to Direct
Sheila Finkelstein was to play the peculiar Mrs. Smith, Stuart Linnick (we remember him well) was to play her son and Donald Mills was to play Dr. Rendle. This melodrama was under the student direction of Judith Anderson. Did any of you aspiring thespians in the play go further with your talents?
Ten New Class Officers Elected by Student Body The officers of our senior class were Norman Benford, President; Alice Johanson, Vice President; Jo Ann De Carlo, Secretary; and Rona Silverstein, Treasurer. Did this experience create any politicians, statesmen (states persons) or attorneys?
Hi-News Is N.S.P.A. '54 Winner The Hi-News won a first class honor rating from the National Scholastic Press Association for the past spring semester. Davis was one of six high schools in the nation to receive an award in its category. Congratulations to you seniors who were on the staff in the spring in your junior year when this award was won.
Marshals Choose Glenn and Aides James Glenn and a huge staff of helpers checked the stairways between periods, operated the cash registers during lunch and checked for books taken unauthorized from the library. Wonder if schools today would trust such duties to their students.

_EDITORIAL/FEATURE PAGE
_We The People
The week of October 17 -24 was United Nations Week. The editorial talked of the importance of that world body. It would be interesting to trace the US attitude towards the UN, through positiveness and negativeness, over the years. It must be doing a lot of good on balance, though - it is still around after all these years.
Wallets are Keepers of Trash, Not Cash
By Kurt Wehbring
Cash in a wallet - that may be the only thing not kept in many wallets - what is in your own. Kurt finished the article suggesting that wallets might have a ventilated compartment for such things as live snakes, snails or small friends. Maybe today, either a credit card sized bb shotgun or communication system.
Willie of Avon Quotes Self
by Sylvia Stempel
Sylvia used the words of the bard to describe life in the fifties. Sylvia, what have you written over the years?
Davis Takes Normal Form:
Geometry Still Not Plain;
Chem Lab Still Distillery
by Mike Cohen
In the article Mike talks about taking down payments for the June '55 Regent's answers. Remember all the time we spent on getting ready for Regent's? We all thought it was cruel and unusual punishment. Now, all the states are going to exams like the Regent's. We didn't realize that we were pathfinders in the process of not leaving a kid behind.
The Inquiring Photographer
by Ruth Wasser and Roger Glasser
Ruth and Roger interviewed students regarding pet peeves. One student complained about sixth lunch - did we really have six lunch periods - some of us would have stolen bites of food by then. Another student said "Ixnay Regents Day" - was that some foreign language we used?

_Hilltoppers to Oppose Strong Conn. Eleven At Howard Stadium
by Andy Frank
The article hoped for success after opening losses to Yonkers by 14-6 and to Pelham Memorial by 13-12. Looks like we were close but just not quite good enough to win. Where the heck was Howard Stadium?
Harriers Face New Rochelle in Dual Meet
By Joel Dash
Here was another sports team looking for its first victory. Even in those days the National Rifle Association was lobbying for new recruits at the high school level.
Minute Interviews
By Dave Grayer and Ira Deutsch
One of the interviews was with Steve Nolan (deceased). Do you remember that big lineman on the football team who also maintained a 90% average and was headed for medicine? We will miss him.
Girls Gym Department Begins New Activities
Remember when girls were only allowed to play acceptable sports. Imagine, girls on Little League baseball teams, wrestling teams, poker championships, where ever they choose to be and can qualify to compete.
Some of the Ads on the Third Page:
Embassy TV & Sport Center - for those 12-inch black and white tv's
County Stamp Center - did you save those uncirculated first day issues
Mt. Vernon Cash Register Co. with IBM typewriters - true story - Exxon (previously Standard Oil) turned down an early change to buy out the typewriter company, International Business Machines

Barbara Pasquale and Bodonna Kass were elected to head up the squad which was practicing two hours each day. They may have been the highlights of the football games considering the no-win record of the team.

High Styles Comes to High School
There is a picture of a number of girls with their chic creations - girls wore styles unique to the 50's and boys wore the same old white shirts, ties and bland suits common to all time periods.

school will not be in session October 22, Friday Remember when we cheered for snow and other days off? Then, as parents, we worried about what to do with the kids at home. As grandparents, we looked forward to a day of fun with the grand kids.
