The annual Winter Concert was scheduled for February 4. The concert will feature Ruth and Naomi Segal who will play on two pianos. The concert also featured the orchestra and chorus with James Haessler, trumpetest, playing "Concerto for Trumpet", accompanied by the orchestra. Google gives some news about the success of the Segal twins - we knew them when:

Nancy Schloss, D.A.R. Winner,
To Compete in State Contest
Nancy was elected to represent Davis. As part of this competition she had to write an essay on "Patriotism, a Quality of Citizenship." Nancy, what did you write then that might be applicable with regard to the Iraq war?
Frank, Silverman, Wolf Enter Science Contest;
Compete for Scholarship
The contestants had to write a 1,000-word essay on "My Scientific Project". The winner was eligible to compete nationally for an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and to attend the Science Talent Institute. Harold Wolf can't be found. Andy Frank doesn't even remember the contest. Gloria, did you win?
Miss Brower to Assist Yale Group
Miss Brower had the honor of working with this prestigious university. Anyone know what color hair Miss Brower had? As I recall, it wasn't gray, brown, black or blond.

Editorial - Step on the Starter
The editor examined many instances of decided inaction in a few extracurricular activities and asked why, pointing out that activities that were not supported might as well be eliminated. The UN on the day of this writing said that the US was "stingy" in its aid to the world. Are you upset by that description of our contribution to the UN and the world?
Sudzy Saga Drips Ivory Tears
As Soap Operas Get Soapier
By Nan (Sob) Fuchs
Can you imagine - soap operas are still hot and heavy 50 years later? Do you think the prime time Desperate Housewives is just an extension of day-time soap operas? What about Lost? What about the reality shows like The Apprentice? Do we keep on recycling old but good ideas?Disc Shows Aid Lesson Learning
By Sylvia Stempel
Sylvia pointed out how disc jockey shows and songs in 1955 teach us things about life - amazing. Has nothing really changed here? Sylvia, what have you learned from the words of today's songs?
Davis Daze
Here are some of the daffynitions we laughed at/with.
Heaven - farewell address
Quartet - where four people think the other three can't sing
Gold-digger - a girl who breaks dates by going out with them
Bore - one who is here today and here tomorrow
All you Californians and Floridians can't be accused of being "bores" - you left New York. But, did you all escape to a "boring" life of good weather, not counting the threat of earthquakes and hurricanes?
The Inquiring Photographer
By Richard Rapoport and Dave Klotzko
The question was "What do you think would be the main features of the ideal school?" George Barletta answered "I like wine, women and song." George, did you spend the last 50 years enjoying wine, women and song?

Hoopmen Meet Yonkers Today in Tilt at Gym
By Andy Frank
Home and then away games with Yonkers for Al Cain, Dave Grayer, Bob Harris, Phil Leibrock, Ray Lundy, John Ward and Knute Tjaldal. Doesn't the name "Yonkers" sound a little strange? Almost as bad as Smyrna, Delaware.
Spotlight on Sports
By Joel Dash
Joel commented about the overflow crowd for home games but the poor attendance at away games. He thought it was the lack of drivers with senior licenses. What was your first car? Mine was my parents' Ford Fairlane on which I had added some colored lights in the front and a checkered design on the fins.
Maroon Mermen Prime for Mamaroneck Meet
By Jerry Fischbach
The top swimmers on the team were Dick Columbus, Kurt Wehbring and Ken Knight. Did any of you mermen pass your swimming genes on to a new generation?
Chessmen Look to Winning Year
For more than 20 years our school had a chess team under the guidance of "Pop" Phillips. The team included Cyrus Abbe, Andy Frank, Paul Flocke and Allan Morgan. Can you imagine which one of these athletic brutes never read a book on chess and invented all his own moves?
Some of the Ads on the Third Page:
Parkway Toy & Stationery Shop - Who of you now produce your own cards on your home computer? Look at how much money you are saving at the price of cards today.
Lonnie Lee's Chinese Restaurant - Who of you eats Chinese on Christmas Eve?
County Stamp Center - Which is worth more - a stamp saved from 1955 or the cost of a brand new stamp today?
Albanese's Eastchester Tavern - Who hates the taste of beer?
Martin and Jules Hairdressers - Does he or doesn't he?

Club Debate At Schools: 'Free Trade'
Debaters included Morty Wise, Gloria Silverman, Frank Feigert and Joe Costellano. Do we now have too much free trade? When will almost everything we wear be made in China? Does that mean that China won the Korean War?
Auto Mechanics Is Ind. Course: Formica
Dominic Formica said "The auto mechanics course is not a vocational subject, but a high school industrial arts course." Don't you wish you had taken the course to better understand how to start your car on a cold morning? Are today's computer-organized cars too much for today's auto mechanics? 35 Students in Medical Experiment
The headline was yellow journalism - the experiment was a test on color blindness.Did you know that color blindness proved of great importance to the military because these people could see through camouflage? Are they better than U2 flights?
Safe Driving Program Aims to Improve Drivers
To be eligible for the course students had to be 16 years old on or before September 1 for the fall term or January 1 for the spring term. What do you have to say after 50 years of driving? Have you avoided accidents and tickets? Should you be retested - be honest?
Some of the Ads on the Back Page:
Daylight Bakery - Who of you worked long shifts in your own business?
Howie Duffy's Service Station advertised two cents off each gallon - Yesterday or tomorrow by today's standards, right?
Music Manor advertised 3-D sound. How was that done?
Lincoln Meat Market advertised superior meats at no extra cost. How was that possible?
